A couple of photos of Orchestre Poly-Rythmo in NYC

We were blessed to have one of the world's best bands grace the American stage for the first time ever. Benin's long-running musical institution Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou played as part of the Lincoln Center Festival on July 11, 2010. They were spot on and got everyone up out of their seats. Thanks to all who made it happen!

Here's what Jon Parales of the NY Times had to say.

Tomorrow on Clandestino

We'll be back to business on Monday with Radio Clandestino returning after a one-week break. My guest will be the Mystic Lady DJ, bringing French pop 45s and other sounds. And for me? Who knows, I've been on a big Orchestre Poly-Rythmo kick lately and will be seeing them play in NYC this weekend. So probably some African music, as usual...and whatever else goes into the improv soul stew.

Catch the show Monday, July 5th, from 230-430pm (ET) at WMUA.org.

While we're thinking in French, here's my fave scene from Godard's "Weekend":

Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou at Lincoln Center July 11

Benin's longtime champions will be making their first visit to NYC on July 11th as part of Lincoln Center's July music festival.

Orchestre Poly-Rythmo are one of those great world music phenoms...the kind of thang that punks and yuppies can all dig together...a killer mix of hard voodoo funk rhythms, afro-cuban, highlife, rumba and even soukous. This is a grand opportunity.

Here are the web details.
