Hot & Warped playlist from 6/10...with my guest Jeff Hartford (Noise Nomads)

Thanks for joining me for this thing we call Hot & Warped. An eclectic all-vinyl radio program which airs live every Monday night 10-midnight (EST) at WMUA.org. The show features classic & contemporary, rare & reissue, weird & straight musics. To hell with weak ears!
My guest this week is a good friend of mine by the name of Jeff Hartford. Despite his name, he is a Springfield, Massachusetts native and I've called him a friend for nearly 20 years. We go back to our teenage days of punk rock. Jeff is an artist on several fronts, most notably as a performer/noise artist who puts out vinyl, tapes and CDs under the moniker of Noise Nomads, many of which are released on his own Bonescraper label. He is a visual artist (collage/drawing/etc), as well as a noted publisher of print zines, clip art and collage books. Check his blog here. I invited Jeff to guest select on Hot & Warped and he brought a smattering of sanity-distorting sounds. An eclectic dude in his musical (& noise) tastes, for this occasion he played a lot of underground rock and improvised music among other sounds . I was stoked to sit back and let the man do much of the work of feeding your ears. Big thanks to Mr Hartford of Springfield for delivering the goods.
All (most?) new vinyl sent to me gets played. And as a courtesy I link to label/artist websites. All styles welcome. Address below. Please note that we DO NOT post pirated MP3s here for your free grubby grab. Go buy some tunes from the bands and labels or from honest record stores or other legitimate outlets.  --Andujar

The Funkees..."Break Through"...Dancing Time...(Soundway)
Heavy Nigerian rock. To call this "psych-funk" would be no false advertising. One of my favorite bands. This particular tune is a version of Atomic Rooster's tune that just DESTROYS the original.

Edzayawa..."Darkness"...Projection One...(Soundway reissue)

Segun Bucknor..."Dye Dye"...Poor Man No Get Brother...(Strut)

Linton Kwesi Johnson..."Fite dem Back"...Forces Of Victory...(Mango)

James Blood Ulmer..."Timeless"...Freelancing...(Columbia)

Sun City Girls..."The Beauty of Benghazi"...Three Fake Female Orgasms 2x7"...(Majora)
I got into this group as a teenager and was mystified by the wide sonic path they cut. This was one of the early releases I picked up.

The Flowers..."Meekshi Manoo"...v/a-Raks Raks Raks...(boot)
An LP of beat music nuggets from 60s Iran, cool colored vinyl.

Pa Jobarteh..."Masani Siise"...v/a-Great Moments of Vinyl History...(Special Delivery)
Despite having a name like Pa, he is a 10 yr old kora player from the Gambia. Excellent record, compiled by one of my favorite music writers Andy Kershaw.

Were Omito..."Aoko"...v/a-Something Is Wrong: Songs From East Africa 52-57...(Honest Jons)

Sun Ra..."Cosmo Enticement"...Out There A Minute...(Blast First)

Bob & Lou..."Track Two"...Five Tracks 91-93...(Ultra Eczema)

Rodney Dangerfield..."Someone's Gonna Get Hurt"...The Loser...(Rhino)

Russian Tsarlag..."Hair World"...Community Death Tube...(Night People)

Yardbirds..."For Your Love"...Greatest Hits vol 1...(Rhino)

St. Vitus..."Thirsty & Miserable"...12"...(SST)
Another fab cut dropped by Jeff, a cover here of the Black Flag tune.

Sonic Youth..."Confusion Is Next"...Confusion Is Sex...(SST)
Jeff and I are both freaks for early Sonic Youth, but only one of us was immortalized in one of their songs.

Sparks..."Wonder Girl"...Sparks...(Bearsville)

Vincebus Eruptum..."Who Farted"...Vincebus Eruptum...(Load)

Pierre Elitair..."De Schepper"...7"...(Ultra Eczema)

Sic Alps..."Down Comes The Perm"...Pleasures & Treasures...(Animal Disguise)

Magic Circle..."Winter Light"...Magic Circle...(Armageddon Shop)

Keith Fullerton Whitman...(side one)...Variations For Oud & Synthesizer 7"...(no label)
Some very cool sonics here on a 7", from Boston's KFW (aka Hrvatski).

Landed..."Osama Oxycontin"...split 7" w/ Megafuckers...(Kill Shaman)

Blue Öyster Cult..."Black Blade"...Cultosaurus Erectus...(Columbia)

Melvins..."Kool Legged"...Ozma...(Boner)
Ozma is an all time underground rock classic. I grew up listening to the Melvins. They will probably still be touring when I am long gone and the world will have been taken over by the tickpocalypse.

Captain Beefheart & the Magic Band..."A carrot is as close as a rabbit gets to a diamond"...Doc At The Radar Station...(Virgin)

Arthur Doyle..."Love Ship"...7"...(Audible Hiss)
I have been taking this 7" with me for the last several weeks to play on the air but haven't gotten to it. When I saw that Jeff also brought it we figured we'd better play it. Cosmic vocalizing with free improv sax blowing. I am a sucker for records like this--a free jazz artist on 7" format. I know, it is hard to make sense of that fetish.

Chris Corsano & Bill Orcutt...(side B, track 2)...The Raw & The Cooked...(Palilalia)
The guitar player of Harry Pussy along with my old neighbor Corsano. I'll have to keep an eye out for this one that Jeff presented here. Cryptic cover too.

Curriculum Mortis..."Histeria"...Sentencia de Muerte...(Ultra Sonido)
80s Peruvian thrash metal from the band that would become Novalima. Yes, that Novalima.
