Radio Clandestino playlist 3/11

Thanks for listening to the program. I always have a blast. Catch Radio Clandestino on live broadcast every Monday 230-430pm (ET) at WMUA.

Television..."Marquee Moon"...Marquee Moon...(Elektra)
This tune has been rolling through my head for a week so I dug it out remedy my craving. It kicks off an opening set of guitar-oriented music.

Group Bombino..."Kamoutalia"...Guitars From Agadez vol 2...(Sublime Frequencies)

Rolling Stones..."Hey Negrita"...Black & Blue...(Rolling Stones Records)
This Stones tune works after Bombino, as it nearly emits a desert-blues vibe before grinding out some funk-rock grooves. In the Beatles vs Stones argument I am firmly on the Stones side.

Ten Years After..."Sugar the Road"...Cricklewood Green...(Deram)
I've been listening to a few TYA LPs I picked up in a record collection buy and have been dropping this album on my turntable quite often before I got word that guitarist/vocalist/bandleader Alvin Lee died last week. So I dropped the opening cut from what is a great album start to finish.

U.S. Music w/ Funkadelic..."Rat Kiss The Cat on the Naval"...U.S. Music With Funkadelic...(Westbound)
A set issued a few years ago featuring (mostly) unreleased George Clinton-produced jams from 1971. Recommended for Funkadelic freaks.

Odmenn..."Ord, Mord"...B-Music--Drive In, Turn On, Freak Out...(B-Music/Finders Keepers)
Excuse my (probably) butchered pronunciation of this Icelandic psych rock nugget from the wacky Finders Keepers/B-Music comp.

Ripple..."Get Off"...Ripple...(GRC)

Wild Wind..."A Drink Or Two"...v/a-Latin Psychedelia...(Rough Guides)
A groovy Cuban band based in 70s Miami who recorded a super rare LP for the Sound Triangle label. Taken from DJ Bongohead's forthcoming Latin Psychedelia comp.

The McCoys..."Daybreak"...Human Ball...(Mercury)
Yes, the same entity that recorded "Hang on Sloopy".

Mary Lou Williams..."Medi Il"...Zoning...(Mary Records)

O'Donel Levy..."Everything I Do Gonna Be Funky"...Everything I Do Gonna Be Funky...(Groove Merchant)
A funky album in many regards.

Ray Harris & the Fusion Experience..."Scaramunga"...v/a-Record Kicks 10th Anniversary...(Record Kicks)

Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy..."California Über Alles"...v/a-Virus 100...(Alternative Tentacles)
Back when Michael Franti still made good music (as opposed to the unlistenable soft sounds he produces these days), he had some cool groups, like Beatnigs, Disposable Heroes and even early Spearhead. Here, he gives us a version of the Dead Kennedys tune that is slightly different than the one on the classic Hypocrisy LP.

M.A.K.U. Soundsystem..."M.N.D."...12"...(self released)

Hugo Blanco..."La Rosa Blanca"...Bailables de Oro...(W.S. Latino)
In honor of fallen comrade Hugo Chavez, I had to dig out this Venezuelan classic.

Myrian Makenwa..."Amompondo"...v/a-Diablos del Ritmo: The Colombian Melting Pot 60-85...(Analog Africa)

La Tromba..."Calaba Calabao"...v/a-Palenque Palenque...(Soundway)

Jabula..."Baile--They Are Gone"...Jabula...(Caroline)

Ebo Taylor..."Kruman Dey"...Appia Kwa Bridge...(Strut)

Skeletons..."Firesticks"...Smile...(Impossible Ark)

Orquesta El Macabeo..."Macabiónico"...Salsa Bestial...(Vampisoul)
Puerto Rico's next generation salsa band continues to pile up the vinyl releases. Thanks to Spain's Vampisoul for releasing the full length. More to come!

Ondatrópica..."Bomba Trópica"...Ondatrópica...(Soundway)

La Integración..."Amargo y Dulce"...v/a-Rough Guide to Cumbia...(Rough Guides)
Another cut from the batch of Rough Guides compiled by Bongohead set to come out in the coming weeks.

Martín López y sus Estrellas..."El Botecito"...Cocinando...(Mass Trópicas)

Greenwood Rhythm Coalition..."Regresar a Cali"...45...(NYC Trust)

Velvet Underground..."Run, Run, Run"...The Velvet Underground & Nico...(Verve)

The Genies..."Who's That Knocking"...45...(Shad)
A longtime favorite of mine. I first heard it when I was a teenage film snob. Used crucially in this flick here (first ever film by either Scorsese or Keitel, music in this particular scene by Ray Barretto).
