Hot & Warped playlist from 5/13...original edition

Thanks for joining me in the first edition of Hot & Warped. An eclectic all-vinyl radio program which airs live every Monday night 10-midnight (EST) at WMUA.org. The show features classic & contemporary, rare & reissue, weird & straight musics. To hell with weak ears!
All (most?) new vinyl sent to me gets played. And as a courtesy I link to label/artist websites. All styles welcome. Address below. --Andujar

McCoy Tyner..."Forbidden Land"...Cosmos...(Blue Note)
1970 session (unreleased until 77) featuring an amazing front line of Gary Bartz, Hubert Laws and Andrew White.

Richard Sen & Cazbee..."AM/FM"...12"...(Mixed Blood Cuts)
Can anybody out there tell me what this is an edit of? Awesome dark (horror?) beats.

The Apostles..."Onye Akpa"...45...(Voodoo Funk/Academy)

Silver Apples..."Gypsy Love"...Contact...(Kapp)

The Contortions..."Throw Me Away"...Second Chance...(PVC/Ze)

Dan Friel..."Scavengers"...Total Folklore...(Thrill Jockey)
Brand new full-length of twisted melodies and swirly (not surly) noise from Brooklyn's Dan Friel (formerly of Parts & Labor). Very cool sleeve art by Maya Hayuk.

Hayvanlar Alemi..."Ineffable Dresscode"...Guarana Superpower...(Sublime Frequencies)

Sonny Sharrock Band..."Seize the Rainbow"...Seize The Rainbow...(Enemy)
80s NYC noise-rock with double drummer action and the crying guitar of jazz/rock assaulter Sharrock. Melvin Gibbs (Rollins Band/Living Colour/etc) on bass.

Lava..."Newsprint"...7"...(Gravity)
Noisy early 90s mid-Atlantic melodic hardcore, sort of a preview of the arty concepts of the Universal Order Of Armageddon (UOA). This unit shares personnel. Another good one from the Gravity catalog.

Borbetomagus & friends..."Concordat #12"...Borbeto Jam...(Cadence)
Improv noise from Borbetomagus, Peter Kowald and several others. The "accessible" record from Borbeto?

James Brown..."Stone to the Bone" (part 1)...45...(Polydor)

Mary Wells..."Two Lovers"...Vintage Stock...(Motown)
A favorite tune of mine from lovely-voiced Mary Wells, who was born on the day of May 13 (1943-92).

Gil Evans Orchestra..."1983-A Merman I Should Turn To Be"...Plays The Music Of Jimi Hendrix...(RCA Victor)
Also sharing a birthday with the above is the great arranger/big bandleader Gil Evans. We honored with a cut from his Hendrix tribute LP and a Cecil Taylor session he produced for Impulse...

Cecil Taylor Unit..."Pots"...v/a-The New Breed...(Impulse)

Pretty Purdie..."Soul Drums"...Soul Drums...(Date)

G-ANX..."Clouds of Cancer"...Masterpeace 7"...(ElderBerry)
Powerful Swedish hardcore ca 89, with some synth and melody.

Keith Hudson..."California/By Night Dub"...Playing It Cool & Playing It Right...(Basic Replay reissue)
Warping the already warped themes on his Flesh Of My Skin LP, the Dark Prince of Reggae gives us genuinely psychedelic versions with his uniquely eery vocals.

Matt Weston..."Coiling For The Kickback"...For Teri Morris 7"...(7272 Music)
My old friend, Albany-based artist Matt Weston, put out this new and limited to 150 7" with a couple tunes in tribute to former Tizzy & Crystalized Movements drummer Teri Morris, who passed away in 2011. Matt played in Tizzy with her. He plays every instrument on this single. See more info here.

Fumaça Preta..."Vou-Me Libertar"...45...(Music With Soul)
Another noisy-as-fuck garage jammer from Fumaça Preta, courtesy of the fine citizens at Music With Soul. Highly likely to destroy weak shits.

Kishor Kumar..."Eena Meena Deeka"...v/a-Rocket Infinity 10"...(Mississippi/Canary/Change)

Ilaiyaraaja..."Gudivada Gummatam"...v/a-Intercontinental Transmissions vol 1...(Kala Bandar)

Stevie Wonder..."Voyage to India"...Journey Through The Secret Life Of Plants...(Tamla)
Happy birthday to Stevie Wonder!

Dewey Redman..."Look for the Black Star"...Look For The Black Star...(Arista/Freedom reissue)
Honoring the birthday this week of the late great reedsman Dewey "father of Joshua" Redman. The old man blows his son out of the water in terms of speaking clearly to my ears. This Jan '66 session is quite impactful. Taken from the mid 70s American reissue.

The Persuasions..."Up On The Roof"/"The Bounce"...Acapella...(Straight)
Mindblowing group vocal grooves from Frank Zappa's Straight label.

Wareika Hill Sounds..."Proverbs Dub"...45...(Honest Jon's)
