Radio Clandestino playlist 11/12

I had a great time bringing you these jams. Tune in to Radio Clandestino every Monday 230-430pm (ET) at WMUA. Next week: I will be playing strictly some absolute all time favorites. No contemporary sounds, all classic.

Antibalas..."Dirty Money"...Antibalas...(Daptone)
Awesome afrobeat and a fantastic album sleeve! Here's the official video.

Les Loup Noirs..."Pile ou Façe"...Á New York...(Macaya)
Haitian insanity.

Les Difficiles de Petion Ville..."Fe'm Confiance" (Tropical Treats edit)...Sofrito: International Soundclash...(Strut)

Chicha Libre..."The Ride of the Valkyries"...Canibalismo...(Barbés)

Meridian Brothers..."Guaracha UFO" (version Rebajar)...Desesperanza...(Soundway)
Weird and warped narco-racha from Frente Cumbiero's Eblis Álvarez.

Frente Cumbiero..."ChucuSteady"...Frente Cumbiero meets Mad Professor...(Vampisoul)

Frente Cumbiero..."Ika"...45...(NYC Trust)

Ondatrópica..."I Ron Man"...45...(Soundway)
The above few selections provide just a small sampling of some of the creative music coming from Colombia lately. Ondatrópica details here.

Slavic Soul Party..."Jackson"...45...(Electric Cowbell)

Dan Lacksman Association..."Flamenco Moog"...45...(Movieplay-Spain)
Wouldn't the pic sleeve be better if it had a Moog image?

Cumbia en Moog..."Cumbia de Sal"...v/a-The Afrosound of Colombia vol 1...(Vampisoul)
Among my favorite recent compilations, Bongohead & Vampi really went to town on this one.

Juma Sultan's Aboriginal Music Society..."Ode to a Gypsy Son" (Joshua Abrams AMS dub)...45...(Eremite)
Original material available here.

Super Hi Fi..."Neolithic"...Dub To The Bone (forthcoming)...(Electric Cowbell)
Coming to Bishop's Lounge 12/8.

Familyman & the Rebel Arms..."Cobra Style"...Cobra Style...(Heartbeat)
Fantastic set of productions by Familyman. An underrated disk, with some pretty funky numbers too.

Las 4 Monedas..."Buena Suerte"...v/a-Skanish Sound...(Vampisoul)
A highlight of the otherwise bland compilation of Jamaican-inspired tunes recorded in Spain. This group is from Venezuela and the tune has been a fave on Clandestino, as well as at our vinyl parties, thanks to the Whiskey Barons edit.

King Kennytone & his Western Toppers..."Nwayo Twist"...45...(Soundway)
Early 60's Nigerian twist.

Lord Nelson..."King Chango"...12"...(Soundway)

Black Truth Rhythm Band..."Save d Musician"...Ifetayo...(Soundway reissue)

Francis Bebey..."The Coffee Cola Song"...African Electronic Music 1975-82...(Born Bad)

Joshua Burkett..."Let it Go"...Life Less Lost...(Spirit of Orr reissue)
Wishing a happy birthday to my good friend Josh. He runs the excellent vinyl shop Mystery Train (in Amherst, MA), is a top digger, cool artist (see his album cover below) and all around great guy. He has also been a guest a few times on Clandestino.

Heragua Loquo...untitled...Yaqui Dances 10"...(Folkways)

John Lewis..."The Caper Failure"...Odds Against Tomorrow soundtrack...(London)
Not to be confused with the MJQ interpretation, this is actually the original music to the highly recommended flick. Film trailer here.

Ranil y su Conjunto Tropical..."La Danza de Don Lucho"...Ranil's Jungle Party...(Mass Trópicas)

Columna de Fuego..."Iñot"...Columna de Fuego...(RCA)

Blackman Akeeb Kareem..."Tomorrow"...Tomorrow...(Hot Casa reissue)
One of my favorite recent African reissues, this album is seriously smoking from start to finish. Hot, hot afro-funk.

The Primate Fiasco..."Casa Deton"...Tap...(self released)
Check them out at Sierra Grill on Thursday and Pearl St on Sat.

Macarra's Old School..."Me Sabe a Humo"...Ases de la Rumba 7"...(Wah Wah)

Jon Spencer Blues Explosion..."Black Mold"...45...(Mom & Pop)

Capitalist Casualties..."Controlled Burning"...split 45 w/ Monster X...(Hater of God)
H.O.G. always had some great sleeve art to go with the brutal thrash hardcore blasts. And Capitalist Casualties has to be one of the all time great band names. These guys have been thrashing since the 80s!

Cortijo y su Combo..."Cúcala"...v/a-Saoco! The Bomba & Plena Explosion In Puerto Rico...(Vampisoul)

Dr Ross..."Cat Squirrell"...v/a-Jook Block Busters...(Valmore)
An all time fave hard-grooving R&B cut.
