Radio Clandestino 5/28

I had a great time in Montreal with Shokazoba and have picked up some part time work to supplement the record sales. I've got a few other tricks up my sleeve as well. More details to follow.

This show was a real fun one as I got to mix it up in styles and played a whole bunch of left field tunes. As always, I appreciate the support.

Next week will be a special edition as Tony and his program Underground Spiritual Game (Mondays noon-230) and Radio Clandestino will party for 4 1/2 hours of nonstop heavy tunage. From noon-230 we will be mixing classic and contemporary afrobeat and afro-funk and other Motherland musics. From 230-430 Tony And I will be spinning personal favorites from various genres.
Catch the action noon-430 at WMUA.org or 91.1 locally.

Until then don't forget about Super Hi Fi and Full Tang at Bishop's Lounge on Friday, the all day and overnight Yurt Fest (I'll be spinning three sets of vinyl) on Saturday and the Recordville Backyard Record Sale and BBQ on Sunday. It's summer in New England!!

Lekun Anamishaun..."Serere"...Low Profile...(Honest Jons reissue)

Ocote Soul Sounds..."Tumba del Payaso"...Taurus...(ESL)

Quantic & Alice Russell w/ Combo Bárbaro..."Look Around The Corner"...10"...(Tru Thoughts)

Rotary Connection..."The Burning of the Midnight Lamp"...Songs...(Cadet Concept)
One of my favorite Jimi Hendrix covers.

The Undisputed Truth..."Love & Happiness"...Down To Earth...(Gordy)

Marcia Griffiths..."Here I Am Baby"...Sweet & Nice...(Wild Flower)

Barbara Mason..."Give Me Your Love"...Give Me Your Love...(Buddah)

Johnny Pate..."Shaft In Africa (Addis)"...Shaft In Africa soundtrack...(ABC)
I love the original Shaft flick, but by the time they got around to this one the formula lost some magic. The music, however, is fab. Listen.

The Soul Rebels..."Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This"...Unlock Your Mind...(Rounder)
I love wacky cover versions and this brass band version of the Eurythmics classic is far out!

Defunkt..."Razor's Edge"...12"...(Hannibal)
A fonky jam from 1981 with the Bowie brothers (Joesph, Byron and Art Ensemble's Lester).

Double Dee & Steinski..."Jazzy Sensation"...What Does It All Mean?...(Illegal Art)

Grateful Dead..."Cream Puff War"...The Grateful Dead...(Warners)
I believe this is the first time I've ever played the Grateful Dead on Clandestino. This is how I best like my Dead--as acid garage punk. I can't wait to pick this up on 45.

Hollie Cook..."Walking In The Sand" (Prince Fatty dub)...In Dub...(Mr Bongo)
Nice surprise dub of the Shangri-Las oldie.

Super Hi Fi..."Single Payer"...45...(Electric Cowbell)
Super Hi Fi..."We Will Begin Again"...45...(Electric Cowbell)
Super Hi Fi and Full Tang play at Bishop's Lounge on Friday night. If anyone from Greenfield/Turners Falls is going that way I am looking for a ride.

The Lions..."Let's Go Out Tonight"...promo...(Stones Throw)
Some sweet contemporary reggae from the West Coast.

Frente Cumbiero..."Bestiales 77" (Mad Professor dub)...Frente Cumbiero Meets Mad Professor...(Vampi Soul

Mariachi El Bronx..."I Would Die 4 U"...v/a-Purplish Rain...(Spin)

Novalima..."Diablo"...Karimba...(ESL)

Batida w/ Ikonoklasta..."Cuka"...Batida...(Soundway)

K. Frimpong & Super Complex Sounds..."Ahyewa" (Hide & Smile edit)...12"...(Soundway)

Balkan Beat Box..."Urge To Be Violent"...Give...(Nat Geo Music)

Hayvanlar Alemi..."Yekermo Sew"...45...(Sublime Frequencies)
Contemporary Turkish psych band do a ripping version of the Ethio classic by Mulatu.

A couple of tunes from recent releases from the excellent Analog Africa label.

Spanglish Fly..."Me Gusta Mi Bicicleta"...45...(Electric Cowbell)

Watussi..."Watussi Theme"...1000% Guapo...(Watussi Music)

Shokazoba..."Script Reader" (dub version)...promo
