Radio Clandestino playlist 2/20

Thanks for listening to Radio Clandestino. Catch it live every Monday 230-430pm (ET) at WMUA.

We begin with Ray Lugo, who recorded a fun radio spot for Clandestino...
Ray Lugo's LES Express..."I Dream of Bahia" (Cachaca edit)...12"(forthcoming)...(Jazz & Milk)

Luísa Maita..."Fulaninha" (Maga Bo rmx)...Remixed...(Cumbancha)

Chancha Via Circuito w/ Fauna..."La Revancha de Chancha"...Rio Arriba...(ZZK)

Los de Abajo..."El Indio" (Macaco rmx)...v/a-Globalista: Import/Export...(Trikont)

Shokazoba..."Script Reader" (Dub Version)...v/a-WMUA Local Music Movement 2011
From the WMUA local music sampler. This one is an exclusive, unreleased dub version. You can still donate here.

Yerba Buena w/ M1..."Fever"...Island Life...(Razor & Tie)
Fucking amazing version of the Ishmael Jingo classic featuring M1 of Dead Prez and Pedrito Martinez.

James Brown..."There Was A Time" (Whiskey Barons edit)...10"...(Flavorheard)

The Afromotive..."Lies"...v/a-Afrobeat Revolution...(Rough Guides)
Taken from our 2nd afrobeat compilation for London label Rough Guides.

Quantic w/ Noelle Skaggs..."Politick Society"...An Announcement To Answer...(Tru Thoughts/Ubiquity)

Obo Addy..."We Say"...Obo...(Avocet)

21 Guitars..."Scorpio" (Kon edit)...12"...(On Track)
Not sure who or what "21 Guitars" is/are but it's a fab version of the Dennis Coffey classic.

Jimmy Sabater..."Kool It (Here Comes The Fuzz)"...El Hijo de Teresa...(Tico)
We pay our respects to the recently deceased latin music great Jimmy Sabater, singer and timbalista for Joe Cuba's Sextette. Obit here.

The Rimshots..."Neighbor! Get Your Own!"...Soul Train...(Sequal reissue)
Too god damn funky if you ask me!

Colman Brothers..."El Niño" (big band version)...45...(Wah Wah 45s)

Jungle By Night..."E.T."...45...(Kindred Spirits)

Dennis Coffey w/ Meyer Hawthorn..."All Your Goodies Are Gone"...45...(Strut)
Guitar-funk legend teams up with new blood on this mighty fine Funkadelic cover.

Ernie K-Doe..."Here Come The Girls"...v/a-New Orleans Funk...(Soul Jazz)

Oscar Brown, Jr..."Ghetto Scene"...Fresh...(Atlantic)

Quetcy Alma..."Deep"...v/a-Explosivos...(Vampisoul)

Randy Weston..."In Memory Of..."...Tanjah...(Polydor)
I was fortunate to see the great Randy Weston for my third time this week (in NYC, his African Rhythms Big Band, in tribute to early 1900's bandleader James Reese Europe). On top of that, Democracy Now featured Randy for their whole hour this past Monday, as a Black History Special. Check Amy Goodman interviewing Mr Weston here.

Nina Simone..."Funkier Than A Mosquito's Tweeter"...It Is Finished...(RCA Victor)
Happy birthday this week to The High Priestess Of Soul.

Cymande..."Brothers On The Slide"...Promised Heights...(Janus)
Here's a cut from the very first Cymande record I ever bought, at an outdoor flea market for $1 in Hadley, MA back in the 90s. I have since picked up their entire catalog and they are one of my all time favorite bands, regardless of genre or era.

Screamin' Jay Hawkins..."Africa's Gone Funky"...45...(Versatile)
This is probably my recent fave from the Screamin' Jay catalog.

Mighty Sparrow..."Kennedy & Kruschev"...Sparromania!...(Strut)

Mulatu..."Emnete"...10"...(Soundway)

Steve Jordan..."Vamos a Tratar ser Amigos Ya"...Steve Jordan...(Freddie)
Why can't we be friends?

Thanks!!
