Radio Clandestino playlist 11/7...WMUA Annual Fund Drive

This past week WMUA surpassed its goal of raising $38,000 in a week of our listeners showing much generosity. It is you who keep the station functioning financially. Thanks to all. As a thank you gift some of you will be recieving a CD sampler of some of the Valley's best musical groups, including the likes of The Alchemystics, Shokazoba, Groove Shoes, Span of Sunshine, Kristen Ford, Akashic Record, The Equalites, Highah Seekah, Sparkplug and others. Some of these folks may be based just outside the Valley but each of these groups are a vital part of our local music scene. Thanks to all of them for donating tracks.

YOU CAN DONATE ALL YEAR AT THIS LINK.

Here is this past Monday's playlist...

Kokolo..."Each One Teach One"...45...(Afro Kats)
A rare 45 by one of my favorite groups, Kokolo. WMUA brought them for a concert at UMass in 2009 and they have been given much love in the area. Let's hope Ray and crew make it back soon!

Kelenkye Band..."Moving World"...Moving World...(Superfly reissue)
Abeti..."Gogo"...Abeti...(Pierre Cardin)
Ify Jerry Krusade..."Everybody Likes Something Good"...v/a-Nigeria 70: Lagos Jump...(Strut)
Olatunji..."O-Wa"...Soul Makossa...(Paramount)
Of course, we hear funky music from Africa every Monday on both Underground Spiritual Game and Clandestino. Check Tony's show before Clandestino every Monday noon-230.

Grupo Fantasma..."Realizando"...El Existential...(National Geographic)
One of my favorite bands and frequent guests on Radio Clandestino.

The Alchemystics..."Dance Upon The Corner"...Spread Hope...(NorthFire)
Western Mass' number one live band and a soulful reggae/rap/R&B blend.

Highah Seekah with Earth Vibez..."Power to Heal"...Reggae Got Soul...(promo)
Valley via Florida via Jamaica, Highah Seekah is now delivering his message in New England with more regularity.

(Highah Seekah at WMUA studios on Radio Clandestino.)

Ray Harris & The Fusion Experience..."Scaramunga"...Ray Harris & The Fusion Experience...(Record Kicks)
I have to give my shout-out to labels who consistently deliver me the funky music. Record Kicks has been one of those labels and I love their catalog of international funk delights.

Safohene Djeni..."Mahu Wo Asle" (edit)...Sofrito-Tropical Discotheque...(Strut)

Akashic Record..."Crawlin'"...Theosophy...(self released)
Hammond player Beau Sasser has been bringing us the old school funky grooves a la Blue Note/Prestige for many years and has also been an in-studio guest on Clandestino. Thanks to Beau for donating tracks from two of his projects to our fundraiser.

Groove Shoes Funk Orchestra..."Lemonade"...Groove Shoes...(self released)
A newer funk band from Brattleboro/Greenfield area, we can look forward to watching them grow even more dangerous.

MonoMono..."Find Out"...Give the Beggar A Chance...(Soundway reissue)
Keni Okulolo..."Call Me A Fool Today I'll Be Wise Tomorrow"...7"...(Hot Casa)

Shokazoba..."Script Reader (Dub)"...forthcoming
New England's number one funk unit, Shokazoba have been delivering funk and afrobeat sounds for several years and have built a solid fanbase. This band is ready for vinyl right now!

(Shokazoba live on Valley Homegrown television show.)

Kristen Ford..."Hey Girl"...Filthy Nasty...(KFo Music)
A young multi-instrumentalist who has already done extensive touring and knows how to write impressive songs. An amazing talent, as she shows with this number that flows from funky reggae seamlessly into a hard rocker. Thanks to KFo for donating her music to the cause.

Span of Sunshine..."Skating"...This Must Be The Present...(self released)
Steve Koziol and company have produced an album of unique and twisted (even lovely) pop songs on the wonderful "This Must Be The Present". Quality all the way around. Be sure to check their site for show info.

Silver Apples..."Ruby"...Contact!...(Kapp)

Exuma..."Monkberry Moon Delight"...Reincarnation...(Kama Sutra)

Bio Ritmo..."Dina's Mambo"...La Verdad...(Electric Cowbell)

Sparkplug..."Whip Whop"...The Music of Melvin Sparks...(self released)
A CT-based project featuring the talents of ex-Melvin Sparks partners Beau Sasser and Bill Carbone and playing the music of Mr Sparks.

Beta Hector..."The Payback"...v/a-Tru Thoughts Funk...(Tru Thoughts)
The Bamboos..."Like Tears In Rain"...4...(Tru Thoughts)
The Tru Thoughts label keeps sending out some quality jams. I am especially stoked to see the excellent Tru Thoughts Funk set finally issued on vinyl so I can spin it out at the parties.

Groove Shoes Funk Orchestra..."Telepathy"...Groove Shoes...(self released)
