Rumba Psicodelica Continues

HEYA kitties & cats out there in La La Land. We had so much FUN last month at The Elevens in Northampton we decided to keep this thing going!! Thanks to DJ George William Myers aka "Snack Attack" the flame still burns bright. Check it out in the flier below and please feel free to drag it to your desktop and email it to friends. I know it's late for some of you (heh-heh), but you can drop by towards the beginning. To all you dancers, vatos locos and go-go gals we saw last time, thank you, and please come with more friends this time. It's going to be wild - light show courtesy of Bell & Howl, WMUA's own DJ Andujar, plus me, Bongohead from Latin Night, and some random live percussion. We will be slinging rare vinyl from around the world, with an emphasis on funky and psychedelic Latin and African music of the 60s & 70s, the odd vintage salsa, cumbia, and merengue, plus great contemporary acts out right now that have a sound that fits in with our aesthetic of real music for real people: acts like Quantic, Antibalas, Kokolo, Up, Bustle & Out, Los Chapillacs, Brownout, Grupo Fantasma, Nomo, Spam Allstars, Kaleta, Bio Ritmo, all artists that issue vinyl today; plus various dope reissues of old school cuts from Vampisoul, Soundway, Stones Throw, etc. Hey, record labels, send us your vinyl! Does anybody want to host a vinyl thang on sat nite in BK?
NY peeps...
I've been on the road with Noise Nomads and Urthquake. We're currently in Pittsburgh as part of a two-week thing. We'll be in BK on Saturday nite (the 19th). Those guys are playing at Cinders Gallery (Havermeyer St-Williamsburg) at 8ish. But there's no room for a DJ so I'm hoping to find a jam to hang at with my eclectic crate of vinyl. I only have a box and no sound equip with me. If anyone wants to find a party I'd love to show up with my wax. You may know me as a funk/salsa dura/afrobeat DJ but this box is truly special--I have the widest assortment from Turkish psych to 60s Peruvian salsa to Arabic pop to Finnish HC to death metal to old skool hiphop to hard funk to punk to novelty records to Ethiopian jazz to 70s West African shit, etc etc. In other words, I'm traveling with really eclectic vinyl.
Anybody want to throw down for the occasion?

Folx, I am on the road with Noise Nomads and Urthquake and we are currently in Cleveland as I type this. It's about 1 am and I'm at the Grog Shop waiting for NN to hit the stage. DJ Dr Quinn is jamming some obscure records. Thanks to all who are putting us up and putting up with us on the tour. We got to check out Lake Erie from a tall tower off of downtown Erie, PA. We also checked in with Aaron Dillaway (Hanson Records, ex-Wolf Eyes) and stopped by his house to swap some records. This journey so far has also brought us to NYC, NJ, and Jamestown, NY. Thanks to Jonny Cobra for hosting and everyone who came out to the party. Hi to Meg also! Tomorrow we move on to Columbus, home of one of my fave record stores, Used Kids.

Sweet Exorcist This Friday (with very special guests!!)
Join us for a tour kick-off party at the People's Pint this Friday (the 11th) at 10pm. DJs Andujar, Snack Attack and B-COMING return with our regular monthly (every 2nd Friday of each month) jamming all vinyl...lots of hard funk, dub, rocksteady, garage, latin, afrobeat, soul, psych and old skool hiphop. Nothing but the good shit. And as a special treat, we'll be gifted with short selector sets by Urthquake and Noise Nomads. It all begins at 10pm and it's FREE!!!!!!!! La Placida del Mercado
We're going to be launching our first party in Shelburne Falls this Saturday night. The citizens at McCusker's Market, part of the Franklin Community Co-op, have asked me to collaberate on a dance party at their spot on the Buckland side of the river. Patti and Ingrid were kind enough to help put together what they are calling "la Placita del Mercado", a dance night at the market inspired by their recent trip to Puerto Rico. I drafted DJs 12XU and B-COMING to join me in dropping some funk damage in the sticks. There will be a heavy amount of african, funk, latin, reggae and other Carribean soul grooves, along with some Brazilian, cumbia, bugalú and soul. We're bringing only vinyl and will be going from 730 til about midnight.
McCuskers has a nice room with a huge fishtank, a keg of beer and some wine, along with a seriously nice outdoor patio (with tents-in case of rain) that will double as a dancefloor. The donation (suggested: $5 for the DJs) includes two drinks and all night love. Beer and wine is kindly provided by the Wine Merchant.
We hope to see you there!
