Yusef Lateef & Adam Rudolph in Duo Concert 10/15

Next week we will be blessed to enjoy a duo concert with living legend (and local hero!) Yusef Lateef and Adam Rudolph. These master musicians have worked in a duo since 1988. The concert is this coming Thursday night, October 15.

Yusef Lateef, now 89(!) is a giant of American and World music, bringing his reeds, flutes, compositions and spirit around the world since he first recorded under his own name in 1956. A culture-mixer of many styles and places, he has composed for various sized ensembles. He is a virtuoso of several instruments--sax, oboe, flute, bamboo flute, shenai, shofar, argol, sarewa, as well as a poet, educator and community presence.

Adam Rudolph is a master percussionist, playing hand drums with the likes of Pharoah Sanders, Sam Rivers, Don Cherry, Mandingo Griot Society and Go! Organic Orchestra, among many others.

Yusef will be appearing as a guest on Ron Freshley's "Fresh Sounds" radio program this coming Tuesday morning at 9 AM. And Adam Rudolph will be an in-studio guest on "Ear Contact", hosted by J Starpoli, Thursday morning at 9. Both shows air at WMUA.org, 91.1FM.

The concert is presented as part of the Solos and Duos concert series and takes place at Bowker Auditorium at UMass-Amherst on Thursday night. Music starts at 8. Tickets are very reasonably priced and can be had from the Fine Arts Center Box Office.
