Let's Catch Up With Our Funk/Soul 45s!!!!

Happy spring everybody!!!! We've got some excellent bands coming through Western Mass in the next few months, including a couple of my favorites, Grupo Fantasma and Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings.

Speaking of Sharon Jones, I will be holding the DJ slot at her upcoming concert in North Adams on May 23rd. The event is part of MassMOCA's 10th anniversary celebration. It's going to be a lot of fun!! Labels, please get me up to date on your funk and soul 45s, as this event will be PACKED!!! We're talking HUNDREDS of folks attending. So it's not a bad time to have your music heard.

And don't forget about the monthly all-vinyl "Sweet Exorcist" that DJ Snack Attack and I host every third Friday at the People's Pint in downtown Greenfield.

Hope to see you at one of these parties!

Another quick plug:
Our "Afrobeat Revival" compilation, featuring Tony Allen, Antibalas, Seun Kuti, Femm Nameless, Kokolo, the Superpowers, Akoya, Chicago Afrobeat, Dele Sosimi and Mr Something Something with Ikwunga is available now. A survey of the contemporary international afrobeat scene, the disks were put together and annotated by DJ Bongohead and myself for the Rough Guides label out of London. It also comes with a free bonus album by Kokolo.
A second volume, "Afrobeat Revolution" will be out in July, featuring more Tony Allen, as well as Zozo Afrobeat, Dennis Ferrer, Ruth Tafebe, Lekan Babalola (remixed by Mark de Clive-Lowe), and many others. Both are double CD packages and both feature art by Fela's album artist Ghariokwu Lemi. They are available through most worldwide distributers. You could try here and here, for starters. Thanks for supporting great music.

"Clandestino" airs live every Monday 230-430pm (eastern time), only at WMUA.org. Funk, soul, afrobeat, salsa, dub, jazz, psych, hiphop, world, and more! Thanks for listening.

Cheers,
Andujar
