Today we had a treat with guest Pablo "DJ Bongohead" Yglesias, a writer, artist, designer, percussionist, folkloricist, family man, and a close friend of mine. He's been mad at work on a feverish amount of projects, including a ton of compilations that he is putting together. He has put together a book on Latin album cover art (Cocinando, Princeton Architectural Press), does a blog, puts together CDs for the likes of Vampi Soul, Nascente, Rough Guides, Fania and others. He also DJs and writes liner notes (including Grupo Fantasma's Grammy-nominated 2010 masterpiece El Existential). He's also curated a few exhibits and designed several album covers. The man is a seriously busy dude working with art and culture and music. Along the way we've traded a lot of music and worked on projects together. For this show he is the guest selector. I let him select the entire program, although I'm into all these tunes as well! Next week, our guest on the program will be Danny Mekkonen of Debo Band, who will be playing at the Iron Horse on Jan 7th.
